Reads on the villain (only 18 hands) is that he's a VPIP of 18% and a PFR of 12% so he's pretty tight I guess.
The river card pairs the board and the villian ships it into the middle .... snap call or insta-fold, what would you do?

Making Good A Promise!
On Friday last (May 18th, 2012) I made the first of a two-part donation to Temple Street Children's Hospital in Dublin, proceeds of my PokerStars World Blogging Championship win. Those of you who are familiar with the story will know that I pledged to donated half of my WBCOOP win to the hospital, a total of USD $2,500.
The hospital has been great to me down through the years as I take my daughter Aoife (see photo) there on regular 6-month eye check-ups. The hospital provides an excellent and much needed service to the families of sick children so it gave me great pleasure to be able to hand over a cheque to the value of USD $1,900 (€1,500). A further USD $600 will follow at the end of July when myself and a bunch of poker buddies will take part in a sky-dive to raise more funds for the hospital. I'll keep you posted on that one!
Once again I'd like to thank PokerStars for the prize, Temple Street for their hard work and commitment and finally thank you to all who have congratulated me and wished me well through-out, it's much appreciated!

Train My Poker Memory Brain
Getting into the swing of it…..

I’m now into my fourth week of memory training and despite not being able to give it the time it deserves I feel that great progress has been made. If you were to say to me a month ago that I could learn to memorize a shuffled deck of cards in less than 20 minutes and recite them to you in order then I would have been have been very sceptical to say the least. That is however what I can do now and get it right to about a 95% success rate. I still make small errors but that’s to do with me mixing up a few things, not with the system itself. This was possible after just three training sessions with Bennett.
We have moved on as a class to start tracking the VPIP (Voluntary Put Into Pot) percentages of players either live or sometimes as practice online without the use of a HUD. The claims that Bennett had made prior to beginning this training that we could become human poker trackers in six weeks looks more and more achievable as each day goes by.
I’ve been extraordinarily busy lately which is a great thing and I’m not complaining. I have however fallen a little behind but I want to ensure that I have the basics of Bennett’s systems embedded in my brain before moving on to more complicated tasks and failing them. So far, so good! I’m more than happy with my progress with what I have learned so far and again I stress to anyone out there reading this that everything promised in the book is achievable by all… no exceptions. All it takes is a little commitment and belief in the system.
I’ve a few more group sessions to go and plenty more to learn I guess and I’ll keep you all updated in a week or so. Until then have fun!

I still can, well, not exactly but I can definitely recall the ten images associated with these cards, all I need to do is learn by heart the cards that relate to the image. So this is definite progress. Bennett then asked one of the other students to peel off 42 cards from the pack and by using images we were able to derive what cards had not been exposed.
All I can say is that these techniques work, of that I have no doubt! I am already looking forward to next weeks session!

A little bit of history…..
This weekend marks a new chapter in my poker life as it will
be the one where I begin to learn how to turn my brain into a human poker
tracker! How is this possible? Well it’s possible with a lot of time and hard
work and the help of a brilliant author by the name of Bennett Onika.
I first heard of Bennett in the Fall of 2011 while surfing the
net about poker books and came across a book that was yet to be released
entitled ‘Unleash Your Hidden Poker Memory’. It was claimed that by applying
some memory training techniques the brain could be trained to remember such facts
as how active each player was at the live table, remember hands played in
specific positions at the table and instantly recall your win rate for your
hand versus any random hole cards your opponent has based on how loosely or
tightly they play. In other words, how to turn your brain into a human HUD.
From the get-go I was extremely interested. I got in touch
with the author after finding him on Twitter and to my surprise he offered to
send me a copy of the pre-release version for review.
A new chapter……
The book arrived in the post on Christmas week last year and
it was an early present for me. I immediately got stuck in and was amazed with
the way the book gets you to instantly forget the way you try to remember…. if
that makes sense. In short it teaches a whole new way of learning and everyone
can learn how to do this so give it a try, you’ll be glad you did.
Keeping touch with Bennett via social media proved to be of
a great benefit to me as I found out that he was recruiting students for a 6
week training program over the internet to enhance the experience of the book.
I immediately put my name up for it and the first session starts this Sunday, I
can’t wait.

ISeriesLive - Feel The Rush!
Many of the critics said it would never work but last night's inaugural ISeriesLive.com event can only be described as a mega success story!
Bet on a live market while watching the live stream which shows ALL the hole cards and chip stacks of the players as the game progresses? Crazy as it seems this is exactly what happened and I thoroughly enjoyed it for many many reasons.
Not being biased or anything but I am Irish and the event was being streamed live from Dublin city so that was a big plus for me. Also the fact that it was Paddy Power bookmakers that provided the betting market was a bonus as I find them to be a very efficient and trustworthy site.
Now Easter holiday weekend is usually hectic in Dublin anyway but it is also the weekend when it becomes the center of the poker Universe with many of the World's top players jetting into the city for the Irish Poker Open. The event is the oldest European poker tournament and is held in the illustrious Burlington Hotel every year. The ISeriesLive event was a warm-up game for some of the pro's and if last night is anything to go by we are in for a great weekend.
If this was a Hollywood movie then it would have been an all-star cast! Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Maria Ho, Eoghan O'Dea, Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott to name but a few. The action kicked-off at 6pm local time and straight away Carlos Mortensen took a big hit so I put a few euro on him to be first eliminated. That was a mistake as the guy really impressed with the way he managed his stack. It was Phil 'Pokerbrat' Hellmuth that was first to be sent to the rail. Known for his blow-ups I watched his body language as he left the table and for a fleeting moment I thought I could see a ticking time bomb about to explode but again I was wrong. Phil showed great sportsmanship by wishing the table good luck and joining the commentators in the booth to add his insight into the night's proceedings. Daniel 'kidpoker' Negreanu also was an early casualty and he too joined in the chat in the booth.
Back to the markets and I was starting to have fun betting if there would be a Pocket Pair or 'Ace in the Hole' dealt to anyone in the next hand. One of the features I really liked on the ISeriesLive.com website was that you could click on an instant hand history button and up popped a new tab with the full breakdown of each hand played. It was so easy to keep track of your bets as Paddy Power have a 'Your Bets' slip on their page, impossible to lose track.
At the break I watched the pre-recorded player interviews and was amused by Hellmuth's statement that he would love to win on the continent of Ireland. I know it's a great country Phil but no need for the promotion. Our government struggles to manage a tiny island so I'd shudder to think how they would handle a whole continent! It was the interview with James Dempsey that really got my attention where he stated that he was comfortable with the structure and had success with it in the past. I took a look at his chip stack and then it became clear to me that this guy could win this. I quickly got my Euros on him and winner winner chicken dinner he went and took it down! After over 8 hours of play he defeated the wily Dave 'devilfish' Ulliott to become the inaugural ISeriesLive.com champ and ship the winner takes all €100,000 prize! Well played James!
Now there's only one burning question....... when is the next one?

A Tale of Two Lives!
The Storm Before the Calm!
Well last night was a first, I never played in two live games at two different locations on the same night before and I had mixed fortunes.
Before I headed out the door to the first game I had played about 600 + hands on online micro-cash tables and ran into some terrible luck. The hands played counted towards the PokerSchoolOnline FullRing vs. 6-Max Challenge and to be honest I was a little bit tilted that it didn't go according to plan but that's Poker, you just gotta pick yourself up and move on to the next session.
After that I was a little relieved to be stepping away from the PC and getting out there to a live game that I was looking forward to for the last few days. It was a satellite game to qualify to represent my County team in the upcoming Irish Team Challenge event on April 21st.
No Place Like Home!
The place where I live in Ireland is called 'County Meath' and also known as 'The Royal County'. That's where the 'Royal' part comes from in my username. Representing my County would have been an honor for me and I would have taken great pride in it had I made the team.

The qualifier took place in my local card club, JJP Poker Navan, and when I sat down at the table I met a person that I had chatted to before online. Thomas Mc Caul is also an avid poker fan and social media user and I thought that he lived many miles away, turned out he lived just up the road so it is a small World after all.
The Audacity of a Nut Straight!
Unfortunately for me it was also Thomas who sent me to the rail in this one at a very early stage. I opened for three times the blind on the button with 8,9 suited and got called by Thomas on the big blind. After some betting and the flop/turn I had hit a Queen high straight and shoved into Thomas's Ace high straight to send me packing for the night. Didn't see it coming, my bad!

And Take Two......
After that I hung around the club for a bit, had a chat and some coffee and took a few photos. It was during this time that I remebered that there was another pub game on in town on a Tuesday night so I made my way to the 'Lodge'. There I met up with a few old friends that I had played against before in a local pub league so it was good to catch up with them. I had better fortune there too finishing fourth to double-up my buy-in.
A Final Thought......
Besides the social aspect to the night it was good to observe different players personalities and habits at the tables. It was clear that the players in the Poker Club were playing a much more technical game than the pub players. Saying that, some of the pub players showed great skill and made some great plays at the right time. One guy in particular caught my eye as he watched everything even when he wasn't in a hand. That's always a good sign of a player taking the game seriously.
I'll play again live at JJP Poker Club on Good Friday but for now it's back to the online grind!

Formula One Returns
Those of you that know me very well will be aware that I have a passion for MotorSport. I first starting watching Formula One back in 1992 and twenty years later I'm still watching it. It's the top of the mountain for all aspiring racing drivers and each and every young kid out there that contests the lower ranks dreams one day of becoming World F1 Champion!
Like Poker, or any other sport for that matter, the people that become World Champions share similar characteristics. They have a hard work ethic, commitment, sacrifice, mental agility, will to win and many other skills that makes them stand out from the rest of the pack.
This is the first non-poker blog that I have put here in my blogspot but I'm going to use this year's Formula One championship as some rest & relaxation time away from the poker table. It's good to have different interests and hobbies. Who do I think will win? It's wide open this year but as a Ferrarri fan I'm rooting for Alonso! II motore ruggisce ferrarri nel mio cuore, or something like that.
For now, have some fun with this cool game. I'm going to keep track of my lap records just for fun!

Still trying to get my head around this as I write here. Earlier today I loaded up a couple of micro cash tables and settled into what I thought was going to be an hours grind. About 10 minutes into it my twitter and skype notifications starting going a little crazy and I was directed to this tweet from the official PokerStars twitter account.
I am over the moon and still it's hard to believe. So many of you have sent me emails and tweets with your good wishes and when things settle down a little I get get back to each one personally. I will honour my commitment to donate half the prize to the Temple Street Children's Hospital in Dublin, Ireland. It might take a week or two to get everything processed but when it all comes together I will post a photo of the presentation of the cheque and the trophy here!
What else can I say, thank you, thank you, thank you!

WBCOOP - Main Event

And so the time is near, and I face my final curtain.......... Well, I can't say I went down in a blaze of glory but I had an enjoyable main event none the less. I thought this promotion was a wonderful idea from the beginning and well done to all the guys & gals who took part.
In the end I shipped 4 SCOOP tickets! 3 x $5.50 and 1 $16.50 so I have something to show for my week. I've uploaded a few of my hands to the pokerschoolonline hand replayer. You can view them by clicking the link below.

WBCOOP - Event 30 Round Up
This was my final chance to win a decent SCOOP ticket so I prepared with due diligence and drank lots and lots of Guinness before the game began. It worked! All the hard work and pre-game elbow lifting paid off as I finished 27th out of 298 starters to claim a $16.50 ticket!
The game was a regular NLHE game with a starting stack of 3000 chips and 15 minute levels. I like this structure as it allows you to sit back a little, play a solid game with a tight enough range. I didn't feel the need to get too involved with marginal hands in the early stages.
The Main Event is on tomorrow so I better get preparing and re-stock the fridge!

WBCOOP - Event 28 Round Up
This was my 9th game in the WBCOOP and a most enjoyable one. it was a H.O.R.S.E. game and my only experience of it in the past was playing some play money games with some of the gang from 'The Drunk Tank', a cool home game where some members of pokerschoolonline.com hang out.
I shipped another $5.50 SCOOP ticket, my third of the campaign and out of 215 starters in the event i finished in 72nd spot. I've my final game tonight before the big one, the WBCOOP main event tomorrow.

WBCOOP - Event 23 Round Up
Happy days, I managed to get into the prizes on this one to win a $5.50 SCOOP ticket! I'd like to be able to say that it was down to fine play and great decisions but alas, that would not be the truth.
The structure for this one was a NLHE 'big ante' and with a name like that I thought there would be plenty of action in the early stages. With 3000 starting chips and a 15 minute clock between levels though it was clear from the get-go that there was no need to rush this one.
The game itself was fairly regular and mundane if not on the slightly dull side. I'd like to give a shout-out to pokerschoolonline.com member Stakehorse75 who was at one of my tables for a while, nice to see a friendly face, eh, avatar at the table.
In the end I finished 90th out of 311 starters, nothing spectacular but a ticket is a ticket and every little bit helps. Back for more tomorrow.
WBCOOP - Event 21 Round Up
BUSTO! In 153rd spot, I struggled with this one too. This was a NLHE Turbo Shootout and I wanna give a shout-out to Nubatz from Germany who knocked me out. I gave ya a good run for your money kiddo! Oh wait, this was a freeroll..... still I had ya worried, Eh, ok guess you weren't even remotely worried but enjoyable game all the same.
Tomorrows game is a NLHE regular structure with big antes' so hopefully I'll get a good run there and scoop another ticket!

Without hesitation this will be the shortest round-up of the campaign so far, no sad sob bad beat story, the guy just played me off the field!
Structure was a NLHE heads-up knock-out tourney, back for more tomorrow!

WBCOOP - Event 13 Round Up

Part of me is just speechless! I don't do beat beat stories but............ Oh well, never mind! If you want to see my bust out hand check out the Pokerschoolonline Replayer below, it's hand #3.
My fourth event in the WBCOOP is over, I just got knocked out in 193rd spot and I'm a little gutted to say the least. The format was 4-max NLHE and I'd be quite happy playing at a short-handed table. When the table popped up I was delighted to see Pokerstars Pro WizzardofAhhs sitting there. It would have been even nicer if he had played a hand cause he sat-out the whole time. I guess he couldn't make it to his PC!
Hopefully I'll get another chance to get seated at the same table as one of these guys before the WBCOOP is over. It's a rare opportunity for a micro-stakes player like me to play against a Pokerstars Pro. That's the beauty of promotions like the WBCOOP
The first level was not so good for me as I was getting annihilated hand after hand. I managed to keep the composure and won two big pots to get me up the 43rd overall and I was just beginning to think that I might be able to get into the prizes on this one before disaster struck!

My third venture in the WBCOOP didn't last too long, I busted out in Level 2. The game was PLO Hi/Low and it's still going on as I write this blog post. There was a little glimmer of hope though when I saw that two Pokerstars Pro's (Talonchick & WizzardofAhhs) were having a though time of it also, so I guess coolers happen to even the best!

Played in my second event of the WBCOOP today, event #4 on the schedule. This was a mixed game combining NLHE & PLO and it was FUN! I really enjoyed it. As I'm a micro -staker I usually only play for real-money on No Limit Holdem Games. I have some Pot Limit Omaha experience though from playing some mixed games with some US friends from Pokerschoolonline.com in their home games. So all in all I felt pretty comfortable with the structure.
I got it in good with some good hands and won a few pots, enough to get me well up on the leader-board for a while. Then I made a total mess of a PLO hand when I shoved trip aces into a boat even though I knew the guy had me beat. I mean, I was watching him for half an hour and knew that he didn't bet aggressive without holding a really strong hand. I looked at the board and said to myself, 'the only way he could beat me here is if he is holding a pair of 3's or 6's. Did I listen to myself? The good news is though I managed to survive and make the prizes. I finished 53rd out of 298 starters to win an $11 ticket to the SCOOP, so I'm pretty happy!

Just finished playing the first of my ten games. The opener was an average run, maybe a little dry on action. It was a regular NLHE multi-table and we started off with 10,000 chips or 200 big blinds deep with a 15 minute clock.

After 150 mins of play I busted out when my pocket 7's didn't hold against Q 10, he spiked a Q on the river to send me to the rail. I noticed this guy played super loose/aggressive and, as the antes were well kicked in and I was short stacked, I had no hesitation getting the chips in the middle.

I've been playing online poker for a little over a year now and I've met some great peeps along the way. Mostly due to the fact that I stumbled across Pokerschoolonline.com which is the official Pokerstars poker school. It has some excellent training videos and tools not to mention a great forum where you can ask questions and chat about the game in a nice, relaxed and friendly way.
If I was to win the WBCOOP prize I would spend 25% on a UKIPT buy-in, it's always been an ambition of mine to play in that tourney! Another 25% would go to my family for putting up with me since I caught this poker bug!
However, I've realised that there are much more important things going on in this World that just makes me stop and think for a while. You see, I've four beautiful daughters and one of them has trouble with her eyesight. It's no big deal cause she gets by and does very well in school etc.
Occasionally though I have to take her to a children's hospital in Dublin, Ireland for her eye check-ups etc. and it's on these visits that I realise that some family's have to endure a lot and rely on this hospital for the care and comfort of their sick children.
That is why without a shadow of a doubt I'd gladly donate the other 50% of the prize to the Temple Street Children's Hospital in Dublin. If you want to have a look at my video for more info please click on the link below after your done reading this.

Pokerstars Cowboy Challenge Feb 2012
Every month my poker coach (19honu62) sets me a challenge of playing out 100 sit n' go's on Pokerstars.
The idea is to start of with a balance of 25 buy-ins at a chosen level and the target is to double that starting balance by the end of the challenge.
This month I'm going to play out 2 of these challenges. One at the $0.25c level and the other at the $1 level.
Starting Balances and targets are as follows;
$0.25c Level
Starting Balance - $6.25
Target - $12.50
$1 Level
Starting Balance - $25
Target - $50

I nose-dived this month and didn't give it the dedication and commitment needed to make it a success.... I'll be concentrating on the WBCOOP for the rest of the month so I'm putting February down as a failed challenge. I'll be back for more in March!
